Review: The Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins

REVIEW:
What an action-packed, epic adventure conclusion to this duology. From the start of this book I couldn’t get enough. I was captivated by the hidden dangers that seemed to lurk around every corner, the unknown betrayals, and the high stakes and risks that plagued Paxton and Aerity.
I think every member of this rag-tag team had some major character developments throughout this story. Aerity seemed to accept her future and truly matured. Paxton decided that love was worth all the risks. Harrison finally decided to confess his true feelings. Lief found that real friendship can slowly change even the truest of scoundrels. And finally Wyn, well she grew in leaps and bounds, finding her inner voice and confidence. I adored the maturity and how strong these characters became in the face of danger and death.
The story was as much healing as it was heartbreaking. Of course with the stakes as high as they were, the death of a few characters were unavoidable. Sacrifices are made over and over again and there were certainly a few scenes where I thought all the careful planning was going to be for nothing. But these characters continued to improvise and fight for their futures as the war was brought to the home front. But not to worry because the ending still left me with a big, smile on my face and warm fuzzy feels in my heart. It was a delightful tale; one where I worried, laughed out loud, and found solace in this magical land.
