Review: Pack Darling Part Two by Lola Rock

SYNOPSIS:

After a disaster of a first heat, I’m ready to swear off alphas and escape to a cabin in the woods.

My body has other plans.

Now that I’m awakened, I can’t survive another heat alone.

Problem is, I hate alphas, hate packs, and really super hate the so-called mates I can’t forgive and can’t forget.

Now my biological clock’s ticking too fast to handle, and I can’t wait on Wyvern Pack to figure out their damage.

I’ll take care of my own needs.

And if you can’t give me what I want, then get out of my way.

Because this omega bites back.

REVIEW:

This book was over the top and just too much. The more I sit and reflect after finishing it, the more frustrated I become. It just didn’t do these characters justice at all and the endless plot twists and loose ends that needed wrapping up completely took away from the main storyline, which was Lilah trying to find a pack to love her.

So lets start off with the whole Lilah trying to find a pack, which drags on FOREVER. She keeps pretending like she is going to consider another pack but its blatantly clear that the only pack able to handle Lilah’s version of crazy, is the Wyvern pack. After the rejection during her last heat, I think both parties are at fault. Lilah for hiding her scent when she knew they were scent mates and the Wyvern’s for being prickly, self-centered *ss-holes.

But past this, the unique traits that attracted me to the Wyvern pack in the the first book, all but disappear in this story. They went from being unique characters, to being obsessed and whipped for Lilah. Even Orion, who isn’t an alpha, is obsessed with getting Lilah back and earning her love. His earlier worries and concerns about her stealing the pack all but disappear when in actuality she does end up taking the pack and all the bonds with it. It was just bizarre to see this endless pursuit of Lilah with gifts and presents but no real emotional connections or deeper relationships were formed.

Then there is all the competing plot lines, not only do we have Lilah and her ‘search for a pack’ there is also a bounty on Lilah’s head, Jett’s childhood abuse, numerous hidden threats, the Wyvern pack falling apart, the Redfang dangers, and it’s all too much. There was no balance to the story because it felt like we were trying to cram everything in. The characters never have a moment of peace. Honestly, it was exhausting to read, I wanted to see some emotional development and was I got was more fighting and more chaos.

Lilah irked me throughout this story. Instead of the hardened bad-*ss I was expecting, she wasn’t that way at all. She repetitively kept on insisting on looking for a pack while she was messing around with every member of the Wyvern pack. This ‘distance’ was pointless, especially after she bit and formed a mini pack with Orion, I just didn’t like the execution of this story. Too many things happening resulted in the main point of this story being lost under all the sub-plots.
