Review: The Bookmobile Baby by Amy Bellows

SYNOPSIS:

During the week Simon Seymore is a good little bookmobile librarian. He lives and breathes his job providing library access to the rural towns south of Grayson City. But every weekend he heads to the bar in search of another alpha to go home with. If he preps himself beforehand, they never have to know his secret: Simon can’t slick.

Omegas who can’t slick can’t have children either, and alphas aren’t accepting of that. At twenty seven, Simon’s learned that relationships simply aren’t worth the risk. It’s better to focus on his job, and stop dreaming about the mate he’s never going to have.

Art Hitchens buried the love of his life five years ago. At forty five, he has no intention of chasing after omegas ever again. But when a bookmobile librarian shows up in his hometown and gives him a wild proposition, Art feels alive for the first time in years.

Simon may be too young for Art and slow to trust after being rejected so many times, but Art feels a need to take care of Simon that’s impossible to ignore.

REVIEW:

After finishing the first story in this series, I wanted to read about Simon. His character intrigued me and I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity about him before I continue on to other books. This story wasn’t bad but my interest was definitely waning by the time the book wrapped up.

Simon was a cute character but plagued by insecurities and a general lack of self-esteem. Art in contrast was older but definitely not wiser. Art and Simon’s relationship is a whirlwind, especially considering the timeline. Art makes some foolish choices, but Simon and Art actually communicate like adults and work through their problems. The story gets into some light D/s but it is pretty clear that Simon desperately needs someone to take care of him and Art is up for the task.

There were definitely some bumps in this story that disrupted its flow. Mainly centered on Simon’s desire to have a baby and how things with Art played out. I don’t want to give spoilers but after about 60% in, the story seemed to drag and I was bored. So time to move on to a new series.
