Review: Punching the V-Card by Leta Blake

SYNOPSIS:

Best friend’s hot older brother? Check. A weekend alone? Check.

Finally punching that V-card? Oh yes.

Carl has a pesky “innocence” problem that requires a solution. His best friend’s brother Devon is the perfect answer.

Devon’s experienced, gorgeous, and Carl’s been secretly crushing on him for ages. And Carl doesn’t want to “lose it” to just anybody. Everyone says the first time should be special—and what’s more special than sharing it with the guy of his dreams?

It’s not like Devon won’t enjoy it. Solving this so-called problem is an objectively fun experience for most people! The plan is totally win/win!

Shockingly, Devon agrees. Even if it goes better than either of them ever expected, Carl’s moving across the country. It’s not possible to have more.

Is it?

REVIEW:

A super sexy read, which is what I come to expect from Leta Blake. It was 100% insta-love but given the books short length, I shouldn’t have been as surprised as I was by this. But the story could have done with a few more rounds of editing to make the story more fluid and a little less cringey at times.

So Carl has been pining for Devon for years, but during this time period, they are virtually strangers aside from Devon’s sister being Carl’ best friend. Devon agrees to deflower Carl before Carl moves to Los Angeles. Why he agrees, we never really learn other than he was sick of his sister harassing him about it.  And this is where things get a little bizarre. They hook up and sweet, stuttering Carl suddenly becomes a dom and Devon is suddenly a sub and I was just sitting here like WHAT? But things don’t stop there, over the course of four days, Devon decides that uprooting his entire life for Carl is absolutely something he should do.

This doesn’t begin to touch on the other oddities in the story, such as Carl casting ‘spells’ which was something we learn 70-some percent into the story and it was just so random and out of left-field. Leta Blake nails the sizzling sex scenes but the lack of depth and substance outside of the bedroom just makes everything so awkward. And not to mention, this whole deflowering was orchestrated by Devon’s sister. Who then talks to Carl on the phone and gets details on the sex her brother and best friend are having…cringe, all the cringe.
