Review: Crossroads by Riley Hart

SYNOPSIS:

After divorcing the woman he’d been with since he was seventeen, Nick Fuller is starting over. He owns the restaurant of his dreams and he’s determined to meet new people, find new passions, and experience life to its fullest. Easier said than done—that is until he meets his new neighbor, Bryce Tanner…

Bryce is all about a good time. He plans to show Nick how it’s done, help him meet a few women, and enjoy the gift of the single life he’s been given. But things don’t go as planned, and soon they realize they’d rather be together than with anyone else.

Neither man has ever wanted another guy, but there’s a connection between them from the start—a spark they can’t deny. They find themselves navigating an unfamiliar new world and dealing with unforeseen obstacles. Physical desire isn’t enough, and now Nick and Bryce are at a crossroads. They have to decide which way to go: the easy path they’ve always followed, or the one that’s determined to trip them up at every turn.

REVIEW:

I have been eyeing this book for a while and I finally felt like the mood was right for me to dive in. The story did not disappoint. I loved the unique attraction between Nick and Bryce and their opposing personalities but sizzling chemistry made it hard to put this book down (how dare you adult responsibilities).

The story is told in dual POVs, I enjoyed being inside both Nick and Bryce’s head. Especially since there is such a dramatic character contrast here. Nick is a commitment man but is reeling from being single for the first time in his life. Where as Bryce is such a free spirit, mister chill and go with the flow. The chemistry between them definitely starts off with a slow burn, so much so that both men are oblivious to their attraction. But once Bryce has a wake up call, he can’t ignore it. The first kiss scene had me laughing out loud.

Once feelings are realized, their friendship morphing into a relationship was so natural, I wondered what took them so long. But the story isn’t all sunshine, there is definitely a heavy dose of family drama on both sides. Even some blips from Nick’s ex-wife whose selfishness knows no boundaries. But nothing gutted me and enraged me more than Nick’s family. Honestly, as the story came to an end, I still didn’t forgive how his mother behaved. Some things are irredeemable to me and her attitude and treatment of certain characters were one of them.

Beyond this, the story was just tantalizingly sweet and sexy. Another delightful read from Riley Hart and I can’t wait to start the sequel.
