Review: Cold Moon by Sam Burns & W.M. Fawkes
An alpha torn apart, his heart stitched back together by the gentle hands of one sweet doctor’s assistant…
Dante Reid has never fit in with his pack of feral, dangerous alphas. He hates his own nature, and his monster of a father makes him question his very DNA. When the Reids leave him bleeding out at the edge of Grove pack lands, it’s their sweater-wearing leader who saves Dante’s life, but in the bright eyes of Doctor Grove’s assistant, Skye, he sees hope for his future, and a place he wishes he could belong.
For all his life, Skye Johnson has been treated like he’s made of china. As the only omega in the Grove pack with a chronic case of the mysterious Condition, his pack is fiercely protective of him. When a strange new alpha arrives in the clinic, the pack circles to keep him safe, but Skye can see more in Dante Reid than his name. And for once, it seems like an alpha might see Skye clearly too, for all that he has to offer and not for his chronic illness.
The condition has already torn apart Skye and Dante’s childhoods, but now the source of that threat rears its head, and wants to take what little they have left. Can they stop the Sterling Corporation and its master before it’s too late?
REVIEW:
I am liking the direction this series is headed. I was expecting this book to be fragile and soft but it pleasantly surprised me, Skye surprised me. He was such a resilient character and after seeing him handled with kids gloves for three books now, to watch him come into his own was a stunning thing.
I couldn’t get enough of Dante either. I was intrigued by the man when he first appeared, let alone when they find him on the brink of death. Linden and Skye help Dante accept himself but also help him find his place in the pack. No guessing there, its right next to Skye. Poor Skye has been seen as weak by everyone in his pack and it was so endearing for Dante as an outsider to treat Skye with the respect he deserves. These two were just the cutest, now don’t get me wrong, they definitely had a few moments of miscommunications that had me groaning, but they eventually got to where they needed to be.
Dante grew leaps and bounds in this book. He finally accepted his alpha nature but also found love and happiness in a pack after being terrorized in his own for most of his life. Their whole romance was so sweet, tender, and cute, I couldn’t get enough. In terms of pack drama and tension, Dante isn’t well received by the pack at first and there are definitely some growing pains there. But over time people begin to warm up to him.
And finally, they start to make some progress on the Condition. The whole end of the story had me reeling. Several plot twists, back to back that had me shocked. Skye is secretly a bad-*ss, who knew? I can’t wait to see how things play out in the final book!
