Review: Platonic Rulebook by Saxon James
Griff:
Walking away from my marriage was my idea of a fresh start.
My kid is in college, my ex-wife and I are on good terms … but being single in my forties is a world different to being single in my teens.
I’m thankful for my best friend, Heath. He’s got my back like he always does and is ready to take me out and show me how the bachelor life is done.
He was never supposed to show me literally.
After we wake up in bed together, I can’t stop looking at him differently, and one thing becomes abundantly clear.
I talk a big talk about wanting to be single, but my platonic rule book has gone out the window.
Heath:
When my best friend comes to me for help post-divorce, I’m only too happy to impart my wisdom to him.
After all, Griffin isn’t my type, but even I can tell he’s a complete lumbersnack. Good with his hands, kind eyes, and a killer smile. All the guys and gals are gonna eat him alive.
But the more time we spend together, the less “not my type” he becomes. I’m the one who can’t get enough of him.
Neither of us is interested in a relationship, so what’s a little fun between friends?
We both know the score.

I got to be honest, I am usually not a fan of the friends-to-loves trope but Saxon James blew me away with this story. I was hooked and couldn’t put it down, there was just something so tantalizing about Griff and Heath. It was just a playful, delightfully sweet read with plenty of heart and a little bit of heat.
Griff and Heath have always been flirty but everything was strictly platonic because Griff was married and off limits. Yet after Griff’s separation is actually put into motion, Griff and Heath find themselves drawn to each other. And while both love to deny their random boners and numerous awkward situations they keep finding themselves in, I loved the chemistry between them. Waiting for them to give in to that first kiss and cross the tepid line from friends to something more had me eagerly flipping the pages.
Obviously after that happens, it quickly divulges into a game of denial and giving in. I loved the progress of the story, the solid decades long friendship paved the way to naturally take their relationship to the next stage. And while this could have been just all about jumping into bed together, these two have plenty of sweet moments where they share their hearts and communicate….like the adults they are! Maybe that is why I adore the Divorced Men’s Club books, there is just something endearing about older, more mature characters…either that or I am just getting old myself.
The secondary characters added a layer of depth and anticipation. Griff’s son, Felix, had me laughing-out-loud on numerous occasions. While Griff’s ex-wife was a surprisingly rational, level-headed woman who was the voice of reason when logic seemed to be short-handed. And lets not forget about the DMC group chat, I am begging for Art’s book…oh who am I kidding, I want them all to get a book, can’t wait to see what happens next!
