Review: His Forever Mate by Brea Alepoú
True Mates are found in the most unlikely of places.
Cole is so ready for a forever mate. He’s happy his pride mates have found love, but he can’t help but feel lonely sometimes. When will he finally find his other half? His True Mate. When a job comes up, Cole is all too willing to take it. If he’s lucky maybe he’ll meet his other half while he searches for someone who doesn’t want to be found.
Amos lost control once, and he vowed to never hurt anyone again. That means walking away from his family and straight into a shifter’s worst fate: loneliness. But even when his fated mate stumbles into his path Amos is determined to continue punishing himself. Sending his overly happy, young, and naive mate away is the only way to keep his vow.
New beginnings, love, sugary sweets, and forgiveness. Love Conquers all.
REVIEW:
By far my least favorite book in the series, and this was MAJORLY due to the lack of story editing. There were so many times that Cole was Clyde and Clyde was Cole and sometimes Cole was even a random name that began with C. It was just so bad and took me out of the story so much that I never really truly sunk into it.
Then there is the romance, talk about an age-gap romance, Cole is in his 20s and Amos is pushing 50. I don’t like that their budding romance starts with a one-night stand that quickly has Amos fleeing the scene and fleeing Cole. The whole purpose of Amos behaving the way he does is that something happened when he was younger but we never find out what that was. So we basically learn that Amos has been carrying around some heavy trauma for 30 some years and then Cole appears, and all his problems go away.
The whole dynamic early in their relationship was weird. Cole practically stalks Amos but Amos repetitively makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with the man. Then it was navigating around the awkward one night stand and Amos adamantly refusing to admit that he and Cole are fated mates. It took way too long in the series for them to get back to the Bliss Pride and even less time for Amos to reunite with his brother. At that point we don’t get any details, everything felt rushed and all I was left was feeling disappointed.
I just need closure, I need to find out what makes these characters tick and this story desperately lacked that. Then there is the whole PI business which has been on life support since everyone suddenly mated up…how is the pride financially supporting itself and all these children? There were just a lot of little details that weren’t mentioned or that were overlooked and as a reader, when I get to the last book of a series, I want closure on every little thing.
