Review: Bleed by Joel Abernathy

SYNOPSIS:

Vengeance.
My purpose, carved deeper into my soul than their names carved in my flesh.
Dominic.
The man who took everything from me, my own personal devil in shifting flesh.
Ursache.
My pack. The high-born family of wolves I’ve sworn my life to protect, even if my dying breath is pledged to another.
Mason…
My everything. Friend, confidant, enemy, lover. Most dangerous of all, he would become the reason I lived if I let him. He is the one thing I won’t allow Dominic to take from me. Love is not a luxury I can afford, but the sweetness of revenge has nothing on the taste of him…

REVIEW:

I have a lot of mixed feelings after finishing this story. On one hand, Vasil, whom I adored in Exhale is the lead. But on the other hand, so is Mason and he was the absolute worst in Exhale. So I guess you could say I enjoyed the story but didn’t enjoy the characters.

Mason was just past redemption for me after his behavior and endless hypocrisy and double standards. He just rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t find myself ever finding anything about him or his motives relatable. In terms of the romance, well it kind of seemed to come out of no where. There was no hints to a relationship and suddenly they both couldn’t get enough of each other, physically. But there wasn’t a deep emotional connection. Things just seemed to drag out and drag on which all could have been resolved rather quickly if Mason and Vasil just communicated.

Then there is Mason’s relationship with his father, Nicolae. Nicolae seems to do a complete 180 this book, he is all in touch with his feels and learning how to parent better. Mason is still jaded and the whole ending of the story and how things played out were unexpected to say the least but also undeserved. I don’t know maybe its just me but the story lacked fluidity, both in the romance and in the plot line.
