Review: Unhinged by Onley James

SYNOPSIS:

Adam Mulvaney lives a double life. By day, he’s the spoiled youngest son of an eccentric billionaire. By night, he’s an unrepentant killer, one of seven psychopaths raised to right the wrongs of a justice system that keeps failing.

Noah Holt has spent years dreaming of vengeance for the death of his father, but when faced with his killer, he learns a daunting truth he can’t escape. His father was a monster.

Unable to ignore his own surfacing memories, Noah embarks on a quest to find the truth about his childhood with the help of an unlikely ally: the very person who murdered his father. Since their confrontation, Adam is obsessed with Noah, and he wants to help him uncover the answers he seeks, however dark they may be.

The two share a mutual attraction, but deep down, Noah knows Adam’s not like other boys. Adam can’t love. He wasn’t born that way. But he refuses to let Noah go, and Noah’s not sure he wants him to.

Can Adam prove to Noah that passion, power, and protection are just as good as love?

REVIEW:

This is the series, as soon as I picked it up I knew it was going to break the book slump I have been in. There is just something about it that sucks you in and has you wanting to savor it while binge reading as fast as possible.

The story is a combination of vigilant justice, romance, and world-building. I am obsessed with Adam, his brothers, and his father…this rag-tag team dishing out justice while being a smidge past mentally unhinged was enthralling. The banter, sass, and low-key competition to be their father’s favorite, had me mischievously grinning non-stop. I was captivated and while the narrative surround Noah was heavy, Onley James artfully balances it with laugh out loud humor and snark.

Sweet Noah was a delightfully surprising character. I was really worried that Onley was going to follow typical story lines like this where one lead is strong and other is fragile but thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Both Noah and Adam are rock solid characters and Noah takes his fate and future into his own hands. I adored that there was never a moment of separation or some kidnapped mortal danger drama. It’s just these two unraveling the mystery and trauma surround Noah’s life and dishing up justice. Basically, I am about to binge read the entire series.
