Review: The Witch and His Doctor by Kiki Clark
In this series finale, the Kincaid Pack is forced to put everything on the line… or lose everything they hold dear.
Damien has a secret.
Actually, he has more than one. His entire life within the Kincaid Pack has been a lie. Now that the truth is starting to come out, he’s faced with accepting the consequences he set into motion years ago.
And hoping his mate will forgive him.
Except the reckless actions of his past may prove to not only be his own undoing… but that of the pack he’s come to love.
Carter gave up on finding his fated mate years ago.
He has a medical practice to keep him busy, a pack he’d do anything for, and a family that’s always been a little too nosy for his peace of mind.
Learning the witch he’s grown to admire and have feelings for has betrayed them all? Just proves he’s getting too old for the whole falling-in-love thing. It doesn’t matter that the moment he catches Damien’s unaltered scent he realizes another devastating secret the man has been hiding.
The only thing that matters is saving the pack—and its alpha.
With Rick’s life hanging in the balance and the pack’s enemies moving to strike against them while they’re at their most vulnerable, it will take every scrap of magic and bravery Damien possesses to prove once and for all where his loyalty lies.
REVIEW:
This was the perfect conclusion to an enjoyable series. I was so nervous as to how this book was going to play out; this story was so much more than a romance and I loved that. There was hidden dangers, betrayal, drama, some epic fights, and a happily-ever-after.
The first 50% of the book was Rick’s life hanging in the precarious balance. Will he survive, won’t he, how will the pack prepare if he doesn’t. Meanwhile Damien is brought out of house arrest to try to save Rick. The tensions are running high for all the members of the pack. I liked the drama and tension here, and while Damien is in the middle of saving Rick, Carter realizes Damien is his mate. This just added another layer of chaos to already fragile situation.
In regards to Damien and Carter being mates, I liked how it wasn’t as focused on them. They had the past two-years to develop a friendship and deeper relationship. The only thing missing is the truth from Damien and bonding. They have some tender, honest conversations amongst the lurking danger. The final battle had Damien blowing my mind, the man was filled with so much strength and I loved how his scenes played out.
I also loved when things came full circle with Rick seeing his father again. The whole story was just masterfully balanced and truly satisfying. I think the only thing I didn’t care for was the Jess drama. A perfect ending to a delightful series.
