Review: Changeling by Lee Colgin
Dominus, an incubus who runs a brothel called The Twig and Berries, has become bored with his life and his customers.
Sebastian, a changeling fairy swapped at birth for a human infant, has just learned his true heritage. Reeling with the knowledge, and unsafe among humans, he lets a vampire guide him north through Hungary to a place where he can meet others of his kind.
Along the way, Sebastian must stay with Dominus for safe keeping for a few weeks, which is fine with Dominus. Sebastian is the first person who’s truly piqued his interest in a long time. Until he learns Sebastian is a faerie, and Dominus has reason to despise faeries.
Forced together, they’ll have to make the best of it. Meanwhile, trespassers infiltrate the territory and must be dealt with. Why are they here? What to they want?
Regardless of Dominus’s feeling toward Sebastian, it’s his responsibility to protect the faerie while under his roof. But it’s impossible to protect a charge he can’t trust.
REVIEW:
It took me a minute to get into this story; I picked it up and set it back down a handful of times, knowing it wasn’t the right time to start it. (Hello, mood reader party of 1) And it was totally worth the wait, when I started the story I was instantly drawn in and transported back to 1600s Hungary.
I read the book in two days, I didn’t want to put it down. There was something so charismatic about Sebastian that he captivated me as much as he did Dominus. I couldn’t get enough of the big soft heart that Dominus tries so desperately to protect. The story starts off with a grumpy-sunshine vibe but quickly transforms into so much more. There is hidden danger, traumatic pasts, unknown futures and a sizzling budding relationship that had me eager to turn the page.
Sebastian and Dominus both grew so much as individual characters. In there relationship, well I liked the pacing of it. The flow between Sebastian’s self-discovery and his relationship with Dominus was the perfect balance. I adored the vulnerability both men showed and I loved how refreshing the narrative of changeling and incubus was. I don’t think I have come across that combination in my years of paranormal romance reading. Needless to say I am going to dive into Stray next.
