Review: Forgotten Romance by Saxon James
Davey
In a list of what’s most important to me, three things are right up there at the top. My kids, my husband Mack, and my career I’ve spent my life building. Unfortunately that career has me away from home more than I’d like, and when I refuse to walk away from it, my husband walks away from me instead.
Living together post-divorce makes sense for us, but it blurs the lines between what we were and what we have. Now that I’ve scored a big promotion and negotiated twelve long weeks at home, memories of our life together haunt me. They make me long for what we had. And now that Mack is moving on with someone else, I’m being faced with the cold truth. I should never have let Mack go, and now it might be too late to get him back.
Mack
Twelve weeks. It’s the longest Davey has been home since we had the kids, and all it does is remind me of everything I wish I still had. So I decide this is it. I have twelve weeks to remind Davey of everything he lost and hope like hell when I give him the choice between work and me again, that this time he chooses me.
None of my friends are on board with my plan, and the new guy in town is trying his hardest to win me over. But I can ignore cute notes slipped into my favorite books if it means getting back the man I’ll love forever.
All I need to do is remind him our life together was perfect.
Now if only our kids, our friends, and his work would get the memo …

This series went out not with a bang but a whimper. I feel like we have been teasing Davey and Mack’s rekindled romance for 5 books now. When they finally got their chance to shine, I was left feeling lukewarm towards them by the end. But the book gives great closure on all the other men in the divorcee club and while its always bittersweet to see a series end, I am hopeful Saxon has a spin-off in store.
So lets dive into the romance, the whole reason why Davey and Mack didn’t work out is Davey’s job and honestly the first 85% of the story felt like we were just rehashing these issues. The distance, the pay, the struggles and it started to feel stagnant and repetitive. The chemistry and attraction between them is off the charts, the only problem is Davey’s job. We get it, in all the years Davey has been there, he never has flexibility or freedom to stay home for good.
So that part of the storyline was meh, it dragged out and I found myself getting annoyed with the same old arguments between them. But what I truly loved was Mack’s journey back to finding himself. While Mack wants to win back Davey and make things perfect for him, he sort of realizes he lost himself along the way. Mack finding his passions in life again and living for himself was a beautiful thing to see.
The secondary character cameos, the endearing and thoughtful gifts, and the ending were phenomenal. I adored everything about it. We get closure on all our favorite characters in a distant future and it gives you all the warm fuzzy feelings. How things played out with Davey’s job was everything I hoped it would be, I just wish it didn’t take so long to get there.
