Review: His Reluctant Omega Mate by Jax Stuart
Will Kade be able to trust that fate has brought him an alpha that he can love, not just the one that he needs?
As an omega, Kade’s purpose is to mate with an alpha and carry children. Years on the run have stolen that from him and ravaged his body. A chance meeting with his fated mate has Kade asking if Blake could be the one to heal his heart as well as his wolf. But what kind of alpha would accept a damaged omega?
Meeting his fated was a dream come true for Blake, but Kade keeps him at arm’s length. Blake doesn’t need Kade to trust all alphas, just that Blake would never harm an omega, especially his prickly, reluctant mate.
REVIEW:
This is my first Jax Stuart book and I have mixed feelings as I concluded His Reluctant Omega Mate. Did I like it, I think, maybe? But at the same time the story kind of felt all over the place and it took me weeks to finish. At the end of the day, I will give book 2 a try and base my judgement from there.
I will split the review into two parts, the romance and the world building. So first the romance between Kade and Blake. Kade has a lot of trauma and baggage so he keeps Blake at a distance for the right reasons. As fated mates, their attraction to each other is instantaneous but I feel like Kade never really worked through his baggage. He sort of trauma dumped on Blake and then poof everything is better and they are now in love? I don’t know, they just lacked any in depth discussions or heart-to-hearts. I wanted some depth to their relationship outside of sizzling heats and fiery sex scenes.
And since this is the first book in the Sweetwater Pack series, there was also a lot of world building. The character dumping and set up was done well. I could already guess who future books would revolve around and what their potential plots might be. The plot line for His Reluctant Omega Mate was a little over the top and in a way the drama/trauma took away from the romance, in my opinion there needed to be a better balance. I guess I will give book 2 a go and see if that is any better and then make my verdict on Jax Stuart.
