Review: Omega’s Gamble by Claire Cullen
Prince Raine has only one chance to escape a miserable life—find an alpha husband before the end of the marriage circuit.
With the threat of being banished to the priory hanging over his head, Raine will do whatever it takes to find himself a husband. Even visit Stormshield, a remote kingdom no omega prince ever sets foot on. A kingdom that just so happens to have three eligible alphas.
Prince Darien has all but given up on the idea of marriage after years of being snubbed by royal omegas. He has far more important things to worry about, like the pirates besieging their island kingdom. When an omega finally does step off the airship, Darien has no interest in a wedding. But he’s not given a choice—this marriage represents an alliance his kingdom cannot refuse.
Bound to each other only hours after meeting, Raine and Darien face a rocky road. One wants this marriage at all costs, and the other resents being forced to marry the son of an enemy to keep the peace. They’re both hiding secrets, but in Stormshield Kingdom, secrets never stay hidden for long.
REVIEW:
I forgot how much I enjoy Claire Cullen’s writing until I dive back into her worlds. Omega’s Gamble was no exception and I found it hard to put the story down. The world building is positively captivating and while the romance took a while to get going, it was worth the slow burn wait for Raine and Darien to truly get it right.
This all started because I was looking for an omegaverse story that had dragons in it. While I didn’t get dragons (at least not after this story) I did find myself in a captivating plot with shifters, alliance waging war, lack of omega rights, and so much political turmoil that I couldn’t look away. I was engrossed and had to know how everything was going to play and much to my surprise it was an actual surprise. With plot twists, deceit, and secrets, I was as captivated by the island of Stormshield, with all its mystery and history.
Then there was the romance and my god what a slow burn it was. Raine and Darien have to get it so wrong before they get it right. From acquaintances to enemies to tentative friends, back to enemies to finally lovers it took them a while to go from strangers to so much more. Their was definitely potential and chemistry but external factors and pure stubbornness made it a long journey. And with one sticky sweet sex scene, I couldn’t find myself disappointed or upset. The story just worked for them. After the hand Raine was dealt, he deserved sweet and tender. And Darien for all his harsh edges is truly a cinnamon roll.
Needless to say I devoured the story in less than two days and have already started the second one. I can’t wait to see where the politics lead and which sibling of Darien’s is about to meet his omega match.
