Review: A Crown For Christmas by Rachel Van Dyken

SYNOPSIS:

The first time I met Fitz or to most of the world Duke Fitzegerald Heraldo Belleville, I punched him in the throat.
I was actually aiming for his chin, but he was a few years older, clearly not wiser, but at least taller.
He started wheezing on his candy cane.
And well, the rest is history.
Hate replaced what could have been friendship, and for the rest of my teen years, I watched him flirt with every single breathing female.
I hated him.
Plotted his death with a smile on my face.
And knew that my first decree as Queen would be to chop off his head.
Except now that I’m finally old enough to inherit the title, there’s one tiny little slip-up.
I need a man by my side.
The problem?
I may have accidentally scared them all away.
I have no options.
Until the devil rings my doorbell with a wicked grin on his face and revenge dancing like sugarplums in his gaze.
I hate that I need him.
It’s a serious problem.
We have twelve days before we say I do.
I just pray we survive without killing each other first.

REVIEW:

Do you love Hallmark Christmas movies? How about Netflix and Lifetime Christmas movies? You know the ones I am talking about, with the cheesy romance and epic amounts of swoon…well this is all those delectable things in book form! Seriously, I am still grinning from how happy this book made me, my Grinchy heart grew at least three sizes while I read this book.

Where I do I start this review other than saying I am here for all the heart warming cliches that make my TV gravitate back to those channels over and over again as soon as November hits. I think what really sold my dark soul was the fact that this is enemies-to-lovers which is my favorite troupe of all time. There is just something so tangible in the fine balance between love and hate that has me devouring novel after novel and I will never get enough.

I was captivated by Phillipa and Fitz, watching them both realize that their hatred for each other was something else entirely had me giggling non-stop. I was a blushing fool as I laughed and fell hard for both of these characters. They balance each other and challenge each other perfectly. They were stupidly cute together and I loved how everyone but them knew it! As their relationship progressed and my smile grew, I knew for certain, I wasn’t putting down the Kindle till I finished the book.

In classic Rachel Van Dyken style, she sprinkles tender moments to perfectly balance out the humor. While there were plenty of laugh out loud moments, there were also moments that made me clutch my Kindle to my chest and sigh with contentment. This is a new Christmas classic that I will read each and every year.

P.S. I raise a glass to you Grandma Nadine, as I look for you in every matriarch Rachel writes, your spirit will not be forgotten by any of us.
