Review: Because of You by Jenika Snow

SYNOPSIS:

It started with a kiss, an innocent touch. It shouldn’t have led to anything more because of who we were, what we were to each other. But I loved him even if he was my step-brother. He was called a bad boy, dangerous, was rough and raw in every male way that counted. But I loved him still. And that one night, those taboo touches, the softly, filthy spoken words he whispered changed my life forever. He gave me his baby. And then he left, was sent away, never knowing the truth. Now a year later he’s back, claiming I’ve always been his. But will that still be the case once the truth comes out?

A pseudo-taboo book that has a small amount of angst, a secret baby, and a bad boy hero. The hero is brooding, possessive, but has only had eyes for the heroine. The heroine is sweet, small-town girl charm who is afraid of losing the hero all over again once he finds out about their child.

REVIEW:

This book was not the book for me…in any way, shape, or form. So lets dive into why this book was such a Read Me Romance miss. I think it starts off with the male narrator, who had a squeaky voice to my ears and was an instant put off. But alas, I will see this book through like I have with every other book on the podcast thus far. But then the troupe train came to town, blowing its whistle, and I had to board…even though I knew things were going down hill fast.

Step-brother taboo, check.
Secret virgin, check.
Surprise pregnancy and baby, check.
Parents okay with everything, check.

I couldn’t…like too much, too fast. It felt like sex, fluff and no substance. These characters are 18 and the whole virginity thing is believe-able but when you tell me she is orgasm-ing away the first time and nothing is remotely awkward. Yeah, no. I just didn’t feel like there was any meat to this story. It was all sex, drama, and wrap it up in a bow. This was my first Jenika Snow book, and I think it will be my last, not my cup of tea or writing style at all.
