Review: Borrowing Blue by Lucy Lennox

SYNOPSIS:

Blue: When my ex walks into the resort bar with his new husband on his arm, I want nothing more than to prove to him that I’ve moved on. Thankfully, the sexy stranger sitting next to me is more than willing to share a few kisses in the name of revenge. It gets even better when those scorching kisses turn into a night of fiery passion.

The only problem? Turns out the stranger’s brother is marrying my sister later this week.

Tristan: I have one rule: no messing with the guests at my vineyard resort. Of course the one exception I make turns out to be the brother of the woman my brother’s about to marry. Now we’re stuck together for a week of wedding activities, and there’s no avoiding the heat burning between us.

So fine, we make a deal: one week. One week to enjoy each other’s bodies and get it out of our system. Once the bride and groom say I do and we become family, it’ll all be over between us. Right?

Fair warning: Blue and Tristan’s story contains smoking hot scenes of man parts touching, pee-in-pants descriptions of grannies cursing, and the sweet improbability of two strangers finding their happily ever after when they least expect it.

REVIEW:

This was just a light, fluffy, quick read. The type of story you pick up when you need a palette cleanser. It’s not the type of story that weighs on your mind or lingers after you finish. It’s the kind of book I will forget after I pick up the next one, and you know what? Sometimes, you need those kind of stories, and today…I needed that kinda of story.

Blue and Tristan have a unique meet cute with a few hilarious stories shared over drinks and a sizzling make-out session. These two have instantaneous chemistry…that transforms into instantaneous love! I know, I know but they literally admit they love each other after 3 days, or some crazy short amount of time. Which was disclosed in the synopsis, so I should have prepared myself for lots of sex and immediate love confessions but I was hoping for a little more substance. And maybe a few more conversations that didn’t lead straight to the bedroom.

Moving on, Tristan and Blue have unique families and I think I enjoyed their family dynamics more than I did their relationship. Blue’s family is crazy big and each member adds a quirky, unique character that brings a layer of charm, charisma, and curiosity. In comparison, Tristan’s family is literally the absolute worst. They are closed-minded, rude, and horrendous. Which begs the questions, how are these two families going to get along down the road? Why is Blue’s sister marrying Tristan’s homophobic brother? And why is Tristan’s ex-wife showing up on the day of the wedding?

These questions aren’t even cresting on the cringy grandma/great aunt comments. What is described as ‘pee-in-pants descriptions of grannies cursing’ fell flat on its face. In fact, it completely missed the humor mark and left me uncomfortable. As the family drama continues unfolds, it almost starts to eclipse the budding insta-love. But things are quickly resolved and wrapped up in the matter of a chapter or two and Blue and Tristan sail off into the sunset. The story itself was meh, but now my mind is cleansed and I am ready for a good book.
