Review: Closer by Alexa Riley

SYNOPSIS:

Ava fudged a little on her résumé to land her dream job. She’s been working her curvy booty overtime to get her boss’s new lingerie line off the ground. But when her boss’s brother comes in and says Ava should be the face—and body—of the campaign, she’s having second thoughts.

Lucas knows what he wants, and the second he sees every lush inch of Ava all bets are off. She’s not only the one for the job but the one for him, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make her see it.

Warning: This obsessed hero doesn’t hold back, and we were more than happy to let him take the reins. Find out what happens when the thick girl gets the alpha and things really heat up!

So I listened to this book via the Read Me Romance podcast and honestly, I didn’t really care for it. It was an insta-love scenario with no character development or anything substantial to base the story even on. I’m not sure if its due to the short length of the story (only 10 chapters) or if this is just Alexa Riley’s writing style as this is my first book by her, but what the heck did I just listen to?!

The story starts off strong, Ava is trying to prove her worth while secretly crushing on her boss’ brother, Lucas. Then Lucas meets Ava, and bam, he wants her, has to have her, and will get her. What follows after this is a discombobulated mess. Lucas essentially stalks Ava over the next 24 hours. Ava has a meeting for drinks with a friend, Lucas is there, Ava is driving home, Lucas is following her, it was kinda creepy and concerning that he used his money to essentially find out everything about her.

Then the story takes a turn for the worst when literally a little over 24 hours AFTER MEETING, he gives her a ring and they are now engage. Like what the actual f*ck…as my friend so elegantly put it, this isn’t a Disney movie. Which I could potentially understand if the authors didn’t interlude the podcast with how they write relate able, curvy women. In what universe is this ever relate able?!  No, just no, that’s going to be a hard pass from me.

But wait, there’s more because Ava is a virgin, which makes Lucas want her even more. And oh, surprise, they are getting married a week after they met…I just can’t even. The ebook is supposed to include an epilogue but after what I just listened to, I do not want to hear anymore of this poorly put together sorcery.
