Review: Crossing the Line by Katie McGarry

SYNOPSIS:

Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo’s best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

REVIEW:

This was a super quick little novella, and I adored it. First I want to get my grievance out of the way…I hate it when I buy a novella and it ends around 70% with the rest of the novella being an introduction to another story. This is frustrating and I feel like I am being had but I also have a feeling the author has no control over this. Moving along into the actual story.

I was hoping we would find out what happened to Echo’s friends at the end of the Pushing the Limits so I was delighted to one click this novella all about Lila. Lila has a heart of gold and I adored reading about her and Lincoln. I loved how a chance encounter led to pen pals. Pen pals has to be the cutest thing ever! As they write back and forth and slowly spill all their secrets to one another, they also fall in love. This novella was stupidly cute!

Lincoln has one secret and its a doozy, but watching him and Lila work through it was endearing. I also loved watching Lila become uncertain and insecure to reclaiming her confidence and self. It just goes to show you to never give up on those close to you. This was just a playful, cute little read.
