Review: Flirt by Lucy Lennox

SYNOPSIS:

Sassy-mouthed Stevie Devore has always had a crush on the local fire chief. Gorgeous silver fox, Evan Paige, is way out of Stevie’s league, however, not to mention the chief has always been a ladies’ man, but when Stevie turns twenty-one, he decides he’s tired of only daydreaming about Evan. He wants a real taste of that sugar daddy, even if it means turning the flirt factor up a notch or ten to make it happen.

REVIEW:

Alright, I was really excited about Stevie’s story, because he is just the cutest, shameless flirt around town. After seeing so many of his friends get HEAs, the man himself deserves one too. But this novella did not do him justice. In fact this might be one of those rare instances where I think the story could have benefited from a full-length novel.

You know that Katy Perry song Hot N Cold, that was Stevie. He was brazen and bold then childish and timid. It was like the man we have spent four novels seeing fizzled when placed in his own spotlight. Stevie has been pining for Evan for years now and it seems like Evan was slapped with insta-lust and then that was quickly followed with insta-love. I wish there was more substance to them coming together, they needed a few more honest conversations and tender, heartfelt moments.

The parts of the novella that were spent highlighting Stevie’s fickle nature would have been better off having him develop a deeper relationship with Evan. And Stevie had so much lingering family and financial drama that it overshadowed any hope of spotlighting him finding an HEA. While the chemistry between Stevie and Evan was sizzling, all this sudden attraction and then rushing to get a life together had me suffering from whiplash.  Honestly, it left me frustrated as a reader. Both of these characters deserved so much more than this story.
