Review: Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

SYNOPSIS:

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.
I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

REVIEW:

This book was an absolute, adorable delight! This is the classic R.S. Grey that I know and love. No one does enemies to lovers better than her. Hotshot Doc was no exception. In a hilarious story filled with denial, banter, smart-*ss remarks, drama, and ample amounts of sexual tension Matt and Bailey go head to head and realize they each got more than they bargained for.

Bailey is a strong, self-less heroine, who is as defiant as she is sassy. Bailey really captures the vulnerability of a new relationship and the real risks you take in the name of love. Her fear and nerves are palpable, and this makes her all the more relate-able. She wears her heart and emotions on her sleeve; it’s hard not to instantly fall for how genuine she is. In contrast, Dr. Russell, aka Matt, was the real character evolution in this story. He sort of reminded me of the Grinch and over the course of the story, his heart grew three sizes…at least! Matt is more guarded and cautious and to watch him crack, well cue the swooning.

Matt and Bailey’s banter and interactions are filled with laugh-out-loud moments, undeniable sexual chemistry, and authenticity. There are plenty of ‘stick your head in the sand’ moments as you watch Bailey go through all the stages of denial in an effort to avoid Matt. While simultaneously falling for him even more. And when they do finally come together, Matt isn’t risking the chance of her letting go.

In terms of the setting, well lets just say I watched a lot of Grey’s Anatomy in my high school days and this brought back some fond memories. The scorching sexual tension, making out in closets, sex-eyes from across the OR table, I was here for it! It was like R.S. Grey combined my favorite things into a romantic comedy and shipped it right to my Kindle. But the story goes so much beyond the surface that Grey’s skims upon and I get all the feels and happily ever afters along with it.
