Review: One and Only by Jenny Holiday

SYNOPSIS:

Miss Responsibility meets Mr. Reckless
With her bridezilla friend on a DIY project rampage, bridesmaid Jane Denning will do anything to escape – even if it means babysitting the groom’s troublemaker brother before the wedding. It should be a piece of cake, except the “cake” is a sarcastic former soldier who is 100% wicked hotness and absolutely off-limits.

Cameron MacKinnon is ready to let loose after returning from his deployment. But first he’ll have to sweet talk the ultra-responsible Jane into taking a walk on the wild side. Turns out, riling her up is the best time he’s had in years. But what happens when the fun and games start to turn into something real?

REVIEW:

I’ve been exploring new authors and genres this year. Jenny Holiday is a new to me author and I rarely read chick-lit; I have to say this book was adorable. I really enjoyed how quickly it read and how the words flowed effortlessly off the pages. The contrast between Jane and Cameron made for excellent banter and the babysitting duty meant that absolute hilarity was going to ensue. I already bought the novellas and I am waiting on book 2 to arrive in mail!

I think I would describe this book as sticky sweet. While there were a few moments of hilarity and blush worthy giggles, at the end of the day, the book was 100% pure romance. And it was refreshing and left me wanting more. Not only from the characters but from the book. Cameron and Jane are a breath of fresh air, with raw emotions and honesty. It rare that two characters come together for such a transparent interaction. Their romance was not only endearing but tender.

Towards the end of the book, as everything was playing out, I was truly concerned with how Jenny was going to wrap everything up. I will say I felt that it ended a little to abruptly, I would have liked a little more and by that I mean at least 2 more chapters! The book is filled with plenty of drama, bridezilla moments, and stolen kisses. I was swooning and smiling and while I don’t think these characters will stick with me, I feel the lightness of this book is what made the book so enjoyable.
