REVIEW:
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book, which seems to be the result of any paranormal romance I pick up lately. I just can’t seem to find exactly what I am looking for in this genre, but I will keep searching. So lets start off with what I liked. I loved the contrast between Tayla and Eidolon. It was very much an enemies to lovers scenario and I am always here for mortal enemies who fall hopelessly for each other.
Their sexual chemistry was off the charts, when they weren’t contemplating and trying to kill each other. I loved the secondary characters, all of whom added another lay of complexity to the story. The characters were elaborate, with detailed histories, complicated pasts, and emotional depth…making it easy for me to want to jump head first into this world. I wanted to know more about each character that was introduced. While at times, the passion seemed a little heavy for my liking, the plot has been set and you can tell this is only the beginning.
I loved the evolution of the story, which starts off with everything being very black and white but over the course of the story, lines are blurred and grey areas emerge. Which is a battle Tayla struggled with internally. But, this book suffered from classic, first book in a series syndrome and upon further inspection, the series is currently at 18 books deep. Which means, there was a lot of information dumping and world building. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I don’t want to commit to a 10+ book series. I want to read the story, have closure and in a couple months if I want to come back and pick up book 2, I can.
As I closed the book, I am left with a lot of lingering questions. Even in terms of Tayla and Eidolon, I didn’t feel fully satisfied over how their relationship played out at the end. There were lingering questions. Primarily I wanted to know how the bond worked? What about Shade’s curse? What happen to Wraith? And this doesn’t even get into all the questions I have over the plot. I just wanted some closure as I closed the book.
