Review: Roping the Cowboy by Kennedy Fox

SYNOPSIS:

An unforgettable one-night stand filled with heat and passion starts the unraveling of a love-hate feud between a small-town baker and an arrogant cowboy.

When Katarina shows up at the Circle B Ranch Bed & Breakfast to serve her new gluten-free, sugar-free, organic pastries, Braxton decides to make her life hell for kicking him out the next morning and then pretending he never existed.

First step, make fun of her tasteless muffins.
Second step, get revenge.

Soon the duo are at each other’s throats, getting even until things go too far and the chemistry burns too hot.

Kat claims their night together meant nothing.
He’s determined to prove her wrong.

REVIEW:

I am in a massive book slump, which was to be expected as I attended a huge book signing two weekends ago. Combine that with chaos at work and I fell into a book funk. So I turned back to the Read Me Romance podcast…as I am over a month behind now on it…and decided to do a little binge.

Kennedy Fox is a new-to-me author and after finishing this audiobook, I am still on the fence about her. I really like how unpolished and gruff Braxton was but I found Kat to be childish. She couldn’t own up to her mistakes, really fit the princess persona to a T, and overall just irked me. Combining that with a narrator who has a fake southern draw was enough to drive me crazy.

The story itself I didn’t mind but it was very abrupt and predictable. Braxton and Kat don’t spend any time getting to know each other. They jump in the sack, jump to pranking each other, then jump in the sack again. There was no connection between these two other then lust and being rotten to each other. There just wasn’t a good flow to the story, it was choppy and felt slapped together at the last minute. Then we had to add a troupe at the end which is the favorite surprise baby…sigh.
