Review: Storm Siren by Mary Weber

SYNOPSIS:

“I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”

In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.

As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth — meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.

Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.

Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.

But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?

Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win.

REVIEW:

Four words to describe this book, HOLY EPIC PLOT TWISTS! Seriously, I finished the book hours ago and I can’t put into words how I am still reeling from all the deception, twists, turns, death, betrayal, it has been a while since I have been so transfixed by a book. Mary Weber masterfully weaves a tantalizing tale filled with political and personal agendas, betrayals so deep, I find myself re-reading passages just to make sure I was seeing thing correctly, and don’t even get me started on the ending! I am so glad I waited to read this series until all the books were out because I would die not being able to pick up the next book ASAP *cue dramatics*.

I just have so many feels and I am desperate to know what happens next. Nym is a strong, kick-*ss heroine and I adored her determination even as she is thrust into weird situations and threatened. As Nym begins training, for the first time in her life, she starts to develop friendships and potentially starts to fall in love. Eogan is the trainer who teaches Nym to control her power, but there is so much more to him I am dying to uncover! He is a green-eyed, swoony mystery and I need to know more about him NOW. Nym also trains with Colin who is similar to an earth elemental and forms a friendship with his sister, Breck. This rag-tag team works hard, gets into trouble, and carves a hole in my heart.

But then this is where the drama and twists start happening. Set in an action packed, fast-paced war-torn country, Nym is their only hope…no pressure, right? Lives are lost, secrets are uncovered, and the real question is, whose betrayal will cut the deepest? Adora is Nym’s new owner and by far the worst character in the book. She is absolutely horrid, I don’t know how many times I sat waiting for Nym to strike her down because the woman deserves it! Also, fair warning….don’t get attached to characters because Mary is not above off-ing anyone!

So as I sit here at the end of this book, coping with all the emotions I am drowning in, I will be starting the next book today! I feel like Mary tore my heart to little pieces and left me on dangling on the edge of a huge cliffhanger but I feel like I won’t be getting any happiness till book 3. *pats heart* It’s okay we are gonna get through this.

“One moment he’s taking my breath away and the next he’s gouging holes in my insides. Like he’s multiple men rolled into one, and none of them make sense but all make me insane.”
