Review: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

SYNOPSIS:

Kristen Petersen doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen—especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.

REVIEW:

This book was an adorable, feels filled debut! This was another novel from this summer that the hype was inescapable. So naturally I had to pick it up and contemplate when to dive in. What I wasn’t expecting was to find myself tearing up at the end, this book was a true emotional roller-coaster, filled with swoony sighs, steamy sex scenes, and a deeper look at how we deal with the hand life has dealt us.

Kristen and Josh are complex, rich characters with diverse personalities, numerous opinions and caveats, traumatic pasts, and most of all, a blank future. I loved the constant give and take, and tug and pull between these two. Kristen is stubborn to a fault, and I don’t know how my times I wanted to reach into the book and pull her head out of her *ss. Josh on the other hand is utter perfection, with a huge heart, he is selfless and determined, to a fault. Their meet-cute was exactly that, a meet-cute, it had me endlessly grinning.

As their friendship progresses, you can’t help but root for them, even aside from Kristen’s ridiculous rules. Sloan and Brandon added another layer to the story, more characters for me to love and fall for. Their upcoming nuptials had me sighing with a full heart. They were just two characters who seamlessly meshed together. And as a result, brought Kristen and Josh together. Just so much cuteness, my heart is going to explode.

Then a huge, epic plot twist is thrown in and everything is shattered! Seriously, the betrayal, it cut deep, I wasn’t expecting it. Now I won’t spoil anything but there was a beautiful scene towards the ending that told me everything was going to be okay and my heart swelled three sizes and tears flooded my eyes. Just a stunning book, that leaves you with hope, happiness, and raw emotions. I can’t wait to see what Abby Jimenez writes next.
