Review: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.
Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.
REVIEW:
I don’t even know how to start this review other than stating that I am obsessed with this book! Seriously, I haven’t been so enthralled and captivated by a book since I read The Kiss Quotient earlier this year. Sally Thorne is definitely going to be added to my one-click, auto-buy list. Don’t mind me, I will just be over here swooning and fan-girling until her next book comes out.
So lets start off with characters, Josh and Lucy are perfection! Their banter and the office war-games had me giggling non-stop. But then, everything changes. And let me tell you, I was squee-ing, swooning, and essentially wanted to melt into a puddle of goo from all the feels! Office tension suddenly melts away and turns into sexual tension, and let me tell you, I was here for it! Josh and Lucy’s chemistry is off the charts. *Sigh* I just want to hug this book and tuck it in at night, that’s how much I love it.
As you uncover and learn about Josh, you cannot help but fall for him. He is so complex and wrapped in his armor. Lucy is a ray of sunshine, sprinkled with the occasional meltdown. They are fire and ice together…at first. But they seem to understand each other on a deep emotional level, they just ‘get’ each other. And as a result, when things start to heat up, it’s obviously they are both going to fall hard and fast.
I basically spent the majority of the story bouncing between giggling like a schoolgirl, blushing like a tomato, and swooning/sighing because of all the feels! As the last chapter wrapped up, I wanted to bottle up the warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest and save it for a rainy day when I am sad. Sometimes a rare book comes along that just captures your heart and soul, and that was this book for me. It was everything I wanted in a novel and so much more. Drama, tension, anticipation, romance, but most importantly a happily-ever after.
